Hope McGrath, PhD

I founded Elm Street Communications to help leaders and organizations develop their voices and sharpen their communications. My background as a ghostwriter, educator, faculty member, and historian enriches the services I offer today.

At Yale and Penn, I crafted a wide variety of communications for senior leaders, including the president, deans, hospital system CEO, and vice-presidents. Most recently, I was the lead staffer of a university-wide project based in historical research and reckoning. In these roles, I worked collaboratively across the institution—with faculty, students, alumni, community stakeholders, and colleagues in development, alumni relations, and government and legal affairs.

Beyond higher education, I have extensive experience in the independent school world. A graduate and former faculty member of St. Andrew’s School in Delaware, I also have lived and worked at boarding schools in Pennsylvania and Connecticut. I know the extraordinary opportunities such schools make possible, and I can communicate effectively about what makes your school special.

I earned a BA in history and English from Columbia University and a PhD in history from Penn. My work as a historian includes writing book and website content; creating museum exhibitions; and sharing scholarly findings with broad, diverse audiences. I am available to consult on historical studies, exhibitions, and related projects.

I would welcome the chance to learn more about your organization and its needs. Let’s set up a time to talk.
